Sexual Assault Support for Women

We offer support, advocacy and information in a safe, women-only space. Our service is free and confidential for all survivors.

Beira’s Place is a service for women only, in accordance with the Equality Act (2010) which permits the provision of single sex services for women in various situations where there is a good reason for them.

From our years of experience and feedback working with female survivors, we know that most women prefer to be in a women-only space when accessing support with abuse issues. Our building is women only during our opening hours so that you can feel safe in our female-only environment.

If you are visiting for an appointment, our main base is in the New Town of Edinburgh, and we have a further base close by for anyone who has mobility issues. We are developing additional outreach services in local community health projects, which may be easier for you to access. This service will be provided by our women only staff, in quiet private spaces within buildings which are not exclusively women only. This option is entirely your choice, and you may still elect to meet in our women-only space.

We support women who have experienced any of the following, at any time in their lives:

  • Rape
  • Sexual assault
  • Stalking
  • Sexual harassment
  • Intimate partner sexual violence
  • Commercial Sexual Exploitation (including the exchange of sex)
  • Childhood sexual abuse
  • Online sexual abuse, image based sexual abuse, or ‘revenge porn’
  • Sexual abuse in prostitution
  • Sexual coercion and control

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive: and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style.”

― Maya Angelou
